Description:
The primary purpose of the Principal Network Architect role is to provide strategic and technical leadership, design, direction, oversight, and guidance for DIT’s Chief Deputy for Internal Ops Division.
The primary purpose of the Principal Network Architect role is to provide strategic and technical leadership, design, direction, oversight, and guidance for DIT’s Chief Deputy for Internal Ops Division. This role will report directly to the Senior Director of Network Engineering and will assist the Senior Engineering Director in executing the Networking Service Portfolio Vision. This includes development of the DIT Enterprise Network Services Service Strategy (SS), Service Design (SD), Service Transition (ST), Service Operations (SO) and Continual Service Improvement (CSI) plans. This position is also responsible for performing research, planning, design, testing and implementation of enterprise and agency specific Wide Area Network, Metro Area Network, Local Area Network, and Wireless Enterprise Network infrastructures.
This key position is responsible for,
1> Responsible to be the lead architect for design of the network architecture and security posture specific to al lDIT’s on-premises network infrastructures and cloud connecting network architectures. Architecture design includes product selections, infrastructure designs, infrastructure capacity, infrastructure reliability, infrastructure security, testing, tuning and optimization.
2> Reviews and analyzes business requirements provided by the Senior Director to develop technical network solutions, operational standards, and deployment guides.
3> Briefs the Senior Director on the evaluation and or recommendation of security products or procedures to enhance productivity and effectiveness of the network infrastructure and cloud connecting network infrastructure.
4> Coordinates with the Senior Director on the initiation, prioritization, and successful completion of all levels of network infrastructure and cloud connecting network projects.
5> Develops technology functional requirement documents, test plans, specification documents, implementation plans, and project plans to support network and cloud connecting network infrastructures.
6> Responsible for developing and administering all enterprise-wide network infrastructure standards and operational policies.
7> Responsible for ownership of overseeing, improving, and upgrading all enterprise network hardware and software.
8> Responsible for Service Transition to include planning, support validation, testing, test models, transition plan, knowledge transfer, and product release deployment management.
9> Oversees operations and processes required to maintain resource capacity utilization levels and software support levels of the DIT networks.
10> Ensures network infrastructure and cloud connecting infrastructure operational capacity is in place ahead of future business needs.
11> Manage technology vendors while staying on top of technology advancements and new capabilities.
12> Responsible for the overall network infrastructure security posture by evaluating business strategies and requirements, researching information security standards, conducting system security and vulnerability analysis, studying architecture/platforms, and identifying integration issues while implementing strong security controls.
13> Responsible for the identification of potential areas where existing network security policies and procedures require change or new policies need to be developed to support future changes to the network infrastructure.
14> Maintains security by monitoring and ensures compliance to engineering standards, policies, and procedures.
15> Briefs the Senior Director on overall network status to include operational status, software status, device deployment status, capacity metrics, data analytics and critical security issues that may affect DIT or customer agencies.
16> Responsible for the ownership of Continual Service Improvement specific to network infrastructure and cloud connecting network infrastructure. Continual Service Improvement includes ownership of service reporting, service measurement, network device configuration enhancements, network device software management, process improvements and overall management of in-direct or direct requests for network infrastructure improvements.
